Please pray for the borehole (water well) permit to be ready before the driller arrives next week. We found out this morning that it is still not ready. Without the permit, the driller cannot start drilling at the new Brydges Center in Kitengela. The permit paper work was submitted back in January about six weeks ago and was still not ready when Dave and Jen went to pick it up this week. Please pray that they are not waiting for a bribe to release the permit, which is unfortunately often the case in Kenya to get anything done.

Drilling a New Water Well in Kenya
February 24, 2010Mark and Scott depart for Kenya next week. Eleos Project is happy to announce the drilling of a new water well near Brydges Centre just outside of Nairobi. As this trip was not in the budget for either Puringtons or Olivetts, we come to you asking for financial assistance. We don’t need much…the entire trip will only be $3,500, and $400 has already been donated. The funds for drilling the water well at the children’s home have already been raised – partially by Eleos Project and partially by our ministry partners. Read the rest of this entry ?

The global water crisis
February 9, 2010
- It is estimated that over 1 billion people lack access to clean, safe drinking water around the world.
- Most of these people live in developing countries and live on less than $2 a day, and more than 385 million on less than $1 a day.
- Over 6,000 children die every day in developing countries from poor water and sanitation, killing over 2 million children per year.
- Worldwide access to safe drinking water is the second largest killer of children under 5 according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.
- A child dies every 15 seconds from poor water and sanitation and the effects of water-related diseases.
- These deaths can be prevented by providing clean, safe life-sustaining drinking water from existing ground water resources.
- In sub-Saharan Africa, 288 million people, or 42% of the population, lack access to clean, safe drinking water. Most of these people live in rural areas.
- In Kenya, approximately 15 million people lack access to life-sustaining clean, safe water.
